A collection of Nagasaki colour prints and paintings
Being the only point of entry for western traders through much of Japan's "closed door" policy period, Nagasaki artwork is among the first to adopt western stylings. Traditional Japanese stylings are used for objects and people, with lots of action and movement. The artwork is assymetrical, designed to draw the eye from the center towards the far corners. Western perspective helps this style obtain a more full field of depth.
