Bairei Kachou

Kono Bairei produced a number of collections of artwork depicting birds and flowers in nature. One of his later works, Bairei Kachou (Bairei’s Book of Birds and Flowers), shows the evolution of his style to heavily incorporate realism. The work in the book uses minimal detail for background objects, using simple and/or vague items to set the tone for the much more detailed primary subject. These subjects are depicted in exceptional detail, with sharp brush strokes and vivid coloration.
