Through Their Strokes

Beisen Gacho

Beisen Gacho Cover (1).jpg

This album consists of works done by the artist Kubota Beisen between 1877 and 1897. During this period, Beisen founded, and taught at, both the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting and Kyoto Bijutsu Kyokai. He also accompanied the Japanese Imperial Army to China, illustrating much of what he came across. Beisen's style sometimes incorporates western ideas of perspective, though this skill was self taught. The work in this album is primarily Japanese in style, using a mixture of soft and bold brush strokes, with light pastels.
